Introducing the Pennies4Schools Gift Shop!

++ Featuring customized chalkboard magnets, mugs and menu boards ++

For Christmas last year, I made custom chalkboard gifts for my family and friends–mugs, wine trays and menu boards. I was inspired by gifts ideas on Pinterest, and decided to give it a shot. Well, the gifts were a HIT and I had tons of paint left over so I decided to put it to good use! I decided to make mini chalkboard refrigerator magnets and drinking mugs for you all.

What I love about chalkboards is that you can always erase and re-write a new message, a new future for yourself.

Feel free to check out the shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/penniesforschools). Write, erase, re-write away!

Latest Interview + Penny Count :)

Hi everyone!

Here’s my latest interview http://www.louisianaweekly.com/banking-on-pennies-to-fulfill-a-dream/, which was published in the Louisiana Weekly newspaper. I had the pleasure of being interviewed by  Kim Hopson, an amazing writer and all-around awesome person! Hope you enjoy.

Also, I am REALLY excited to announce that I’ve raised 130,000 pennies so far! Kim’s article did wonders for me! THANK YOU ALL SO, SO MUCH!

My Kind of Rain

I made this little stop-motion Vine video using my phone, my pennies and some putty. Got it in just one take!

The video features Banky’s rain girl stencil, which we’re fortunate to have here in New Orleans. Experts speculate that the art work signifies the failings of our levee system during Hurricane Katrina. The levees and the Rain Girl’s umbrella saturate, rather than protect from water.

I’ve re-imagined this work to feature a girl surprised by what she receives when reaches outside her umbrella of comfort.

What a wonderful world!

A graduate student from Gretna has big dreams of studying abroad in Italy.  The only problem is she doesn’t have the money to go.  She’s turned to social media and News with a Twist to help her raise money, one penny at a time.

The smallest of change is huge to 24-year-old Ana Veal.

“I’m undertaking a huge project.  I want to raise money to go to school in Italy.   I was reading a story about Mike Hayes, who in the 1908’s wrote to a syndicated columnist.  Mike was a college student from Illinois, and after the article appeared, Mike got 2.8 million pennies in the mail.  I wanted to encourage small donations, while still maintaining the integrity of what Mike did,” she told WGNO’s Kenny Lopez.

This Xavier University graduate is pleading for pennies to pay for her Master’s Program at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy.  She…
